Facebook is seeking a Hardware Systems Engineer Intern to join our Release to Production Engineering team in Dublin.

The successful candidate will join our Infrastructure Sustaining team in Dublin. This team is responsible for the hardware health of all of Facebook’s servers. Our servers and data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure operates and hardware health is critical for services to be delivered. The Infrastructure Sustaining team uses hardware insights, data analysis and software development expertise to maintain the hardware health of the entire fleet. We support and debug issues on server hardware at tremendous scale, and you will find out about the tooling, automation and monitoring that is needed to maintain a large scale server fleet.

This is a 12 week summer internship opportunity in Dublin, starting June 2022.

Hardware Systems Engineer, Intern Responsibilities
Interface with outside vendors and internal hardware, mechanical, power, thermal and software engineers to understand system design and implementation
Interface with internal service, infrastructure, capacity and tooling teams to understand software and service requirements and behaviour
Create tooling and automation to monitor, maintain and automate the operation of the production fleet
Diagnose and root cause hardware and system failures
Develop and publish tests, performance optimisations and other debugs and investigations, communicating findings to team members
Develop, modify and extend new and existing automation infrastructure to manage, monitor and support fleet health at scale


Minimum Qualifications
- In the process of obtaining a BS or MS (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
- Coding experience with Python, Ruby, C++, Java, PHP or equivalent
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix environments
- Trouble shooting and analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Interest or experience in hacking, prototyping and/or overclocking, electronics or software engineering projects/hobbies (esp. involving hardware)
- Familiar with server and CPU architecture and system-level components
